The Credit Union emerged from a meeting of the Maryfield Residents Association on 16th September 1965.
A decision was taken on the advice of Willie Kehoe, Secretary of the Residents Association, to set up a study group with a view to establishing a Credit Union for the area. Within months, the new Credit Union was accepting its first members.
One of the greatest achievements of the founder members was to think big. Despite the most meagre of resources, they built a fine premises on Gracefield Road within four years. In perhaps one of their boldest moves they agreed to join with volunteers from Coolock to extend the Common Bond to Coolock Village, Bonnybrook and Kilmore West. The opening of the Northside Office was the next key move. Some of these initiatives put the young Credit Union under tremendous pressure but ultimately they resulted in one of the largest and most sucessful community Credit Unions in the city.
